Christian Political Thought (P02286)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : DIV-P-DIv-P-CPT This course is the primary provision for the new Christian Political Thought stream in the M.Th. in Theological Ethics. Usually taught in the Second Semester, it will complement the more general core course in Ethics taught in the First Semester with an emphasis on the socio-political spheres of decision and action. The emphasis in this course will be with texts from the last century, avoiding overlap with the course on Church and State, which is more historically based. Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
An informed understanding of major conceptual issues in contemporary discussions of political and social life.
An appreciation of the distinctive contribution of the Christian theological tradition to these discussions. Critical reflection on the relation of theology to descriptive and philosophical analyses of society. Critical reflection on theological method in socio-political questions. Assessment Information
Members of the class will produce written papers (of 3-4 thousand words) in the course of the Semester. Assistance in selecting a topic and planning the essay will be available.
