Theories of Existence (P01314)

The Option aims to examine different theories about existence and reality. It will be based on ancient sources. It will divide into four sections, each corresponding to a different outlook on existence and reality represented by a different ancient author or school. Authors and schools may include the Presocratics, Plato, Aristotle, and the Stoics.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The course aims to develop both students' philosophical skills and their knowledge of various theories of existence and reality in ancient philosophy.

The teaching is seminar based, and each week students will have to prepare by reading set work.

Assessment Information

One 2000 word essay.
