Introductory Italian Language (IT0002)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 7  ? Acronym : LLC-1-IT0002

A language course designed to give absolute beginners a basic, working knowledge of spoken and written Italian.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not accepting further student enrolments.

? Pre-requisites : No previous knowledge of Italian is required.

? Prohibited combinations : No students on programmes owned by DELC (Division of European Languages and Cultures) will be admitted to these courses.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : Priority to enrol will be given as follows:

1)students from the Colleges of Science and Engineering, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, and all Visiting Students;
2)students from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences from subject areas outwith the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures;
3)students from the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures from subject areas outwith the Division of European Languages;
4)all other students.

NB: Students will be confirmed whether they have been accepted on this course only after the first meeting.

? Costs : a coursebook (approx. £18) a pocket dictionary

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A course designed to give beginners a grasp of the language at an elementary level. Students will progressively develop basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and acquire a basic range of linguistic structures as well as vocabulary of approximately 600 words.

Assessment Information

Coursework

Two assessments will be held on Thursday in week 6 and 10. Attendance and homework will be accounted as well. The weighting for coursework (counting for the 50% of the final mark) is as follow:


Assessment 1 = 15%
Assessment 2 = 20%
Attendance and homework= 15%

Degree exam

All students have to sit a degree exam which counts for 50% of their final mark. The final pass mark is 40%.
