* Honours degrees must include 40 credits of dissertation work.  Where this is taken in English Literature a 20 credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion unit in fourth year.  Where the dissertation is taken in History the 40 credit unit will be undertaken in fourth year.

# Entry to year 3 normally requires a pass at 50% or above at the first attempt in English Literature 2 or Scottish Literature 2, or American Literature 2 and a mark of 50% or above in any history course.
