*  A booklet giving details about the courses being offered in any one year, as well as about restrictions on choice of courses, will be available to students entering the course to facilitate advance planning.
†  Entry to Honours normally requires a pass at 50% or above, at the first attempt, in the second year courses of English Language and English Literature or Scottish Literature.
‡ Honours degrees must include 40 credits of dissertation work.  Where this is taken in English Literature a 20 credit unit towards the dissertation will be taken in third year, and a 20 credit completion unit in fourth year. Where the dissertation is taken in English Language the 40 credit unit will be undertaken in fourth year.
