Physiology 2 (U03681)

A systematic survey of general mammalian (mainly human) physiology which lays the groundwork for all subsequent courses in Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience. Course topics include: the composition of body fluids and fluid homeostasis, membrane structure in relation to function, nerves and hormones, the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and gastro-intestinal systems and an introduction to reproductive physiology.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Molecules and Cells 1 and Quantification in the Life Sciences 1 are recommended.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

A knowledge and understanding of the action of the major physiological systems in the human body.
Experience of conducting individual literature research in producing a major course essay.
Enhancing laboratory competence via: bench work and group practical work developing co-operation skills.

Assessment Information

1 x 1500 word essay 15%, Practicals = 20%, degree theory examination = 65%.
