The biology, immunology and pathology of eukaryote parasites (U03303)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-MIpara This course will describe the natural history and transmission dynamics of protozoan and metazoan parasites, including arthropods. Factors effecting the establishment of infection and development of protective immunity will be considered in relation to development of disease. Method for diagnosis and control of infections will be discussed. Specific infections to be covered include: malaria, sleeping sickness, Chagas' disease; leishmaniasis; toxoplasmosis; schistosomiasis, lymphatic filariasis; river blindness; hydatid disease; and, hookworms.
