The course covers two areas: Wave equations and solutions (1); and Global Seismology (2).

Topics in (1) include fundamental of wave motion; the wave equation; reflection and refraction of plane waves at a plane boundary; and Rayleigh waves for an homogeneous half-space.

Topics in (2) include an introduction to global seismology; the earthquate source; earthquake mechanics; seismic recording; seismograms; earthquake location; global earth structure; seimotectonics; and seismic hazard.

? Pre-requisites : Year 3 of BSc (Hons) Geophysics. Please see degree programme table for more information.
