The course aims to develop an understanding of optimisation and strategy in engineering economics. Game theoretic, evolutionary approaches and agent based models are studied in the context of optimisation of plans and designs.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the module, students should be able to:

1. Understand the concept of a search space and differentiate between various analytic and heuristic optimisation methods

2. Characterize search problems

3. Appreciate theories of strategic behaviour based on game playing models

4. View business behaviour in a strategic context

5. Understand and model agent models in management
