Introduction to Geophysical Fields and Waves (U01801)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 9 ? Acronym : GEO-3-QUAN The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to the concepts and techniques that underpin the understanding of Geophysical Fields and Waves. The basic mathematical techniques of differential equations, fields, Fourier Transforms, Vectors and Tensors will be introduced along with direct applications to geophysical problems. The course will form a bridge between lecture material given in Maths and Physics in year 2, and the more specialist geophysical disciplines that will follow later in year 3 and 4. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Introduction to Geophysics, Mathematical Methods 4, Applicable Mathematics 4, Physics 2A: Forces, Fields & Potentials. Other students may be admitted at the discretion of the Course Organiser. Some additional reading may be specified for such students. ? Costs : None.
