Freshwater Ecology (U01714)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : BIO-4-ECfwecol

Freshwaters makes up less than 1% of the world's water, but play a vital role in life on Earth and they are rich and complex environments in their own right. The physical features of water create and define the habitat template, and the close coupling between physical and biological processes is a characteristic of freshwater ecology. The course will cover a range of key topics, including population dynamics and dispersal, hydrological disturbance, the impact of predators, nutrient dynamics, eutrophication and alternative stable states, and the effects of introduced species.
