MPhys Project (U01435)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : PHY-5-MPhysProj The MPhys Project aims to help you to identify and cultivate the technical, personal, and presentation skills needed to work successfully in a physics-based research/development environment. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : At least 80 credit points accrued in courses of SCQF Level 9 or 10 drawn from Schedule Q. Additional Class Information : There are no set working hours; project work should be the equivalent of two working days per week, including regular meetings with Supervisor. Upon successful completion of the course, it is expected that students will:
1)have learnt how to conduct a comprehensive search of the literature relevant to a research topic and to select and summarise the crucial aspects of the relevant literature 2)have gained experience of the organisation and completion of an extended research project where the results and outcomes are not defined at the beginning 3)have learnt how to organise, keep and use a comprehensive log book of the work done in the project 4)have learnt how to write a full report including a concise summary of the relevant literature, the pertinent aspects of the method and a critical discussion of the results and conclusions 5)have gained experience of working in a research group environment and interacting in a professional manner with research scientists 6)have gained experience of the oral presentation of their work and defending their work in a professional manner Assessment Information
