Healthcare Associated Infection (U01010)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : BMS-4-MI09 This module looks at infection as it relates to individuals and groups in healthcare settings, and not in general at molecular and cellular mechanisms. We will look at some of the best primary literature available, most of which consists of observational studies and some clinical trials, and relate this to the way these problems are being addressed in Scotland today. The module will be taught largely by the students reading and presenting selected papers, with the teaching staff first providing an overview and synthesis. Topics to be considered will be a) the size of the problem of HAI and how we know; b) Hand Hygiene; c) Surgical Site Infections, and d)Infections of Intravascular Devices. This module will complement GI infections in S1 and Antibiotic Crisis in S2 where other major aspects of HAI are covered (i.e. C diff and antibiotic resistant bacteria). Entry Requirements?
