At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1. describe and explain: the fundamental principles of the periodic table, simple chemical bonding ideas, the principles of thermodynamics and equilibria 2. recognise the main organic functional groups, describe and explain the shapes of simple organic molecules, and apply these principles to more complex biologically relevant organic molecules 3. use their knowledge to explain observations and solve problems associated with the materials covered in the course. 4. use laboratory equipment in a safe manner in order to measure physical quantities, and to interpret and analyse the results. 5. write clear, succinct laboratory reports Assessment Information
0.70 Examination and 0.30 In-Course Assessment (comprising laboratory practical marks and multiple choice test).
