Immunology Project (U00727)

? Credit Points : 40  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : BIO-4-IMmproj

The Immunology Honours Projects are lab-based projects run in immunology-related research labs in and around Edinburgh. Projects are designed to be simple, but stimulating introductions to the process of scientific research. Placements are made in active research labs and the projects are usually an integral part of the labs' research effort. It is usual for students to be supervised by experienced lab workers (PhD students or postdocs) so that questions and problems can be dealt with in a timely fashion. Students can hope to learn at least 1-2 techniques really well, while being exposed to several others. After becoming competent in experimental procedures students will be expected to plan and perform their experiments with relative independence. Interpretation of results and planning of future experiments will be done together with supervisors, although the aim is that students should have as much input as possible. There will be at least one oral presentation of the project to classmates and supervisors. Assessment will be by the production of a project report. A choice of projects will be available and it is hoped that all will get one of their top 4 choices
