Welfare, Ideology and the State: Continuity and Change (U00571)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 8 ? Acronym : EDU-1-WISCC The aim of this course is to develop students' understanding of the changing relationship between welfare, ideology and the state within British social policy. Particular attention is paid to historical changes in the respective roles of the different sectors of welfare: public, private, voluntary and informal. Social policy is viewed through a range of ideological perspectives in order to illuminate contemporary debates about the nature of citizenship and democracy and the role of the state, with particular reference to the new Scottish state. - Understand elements of both continuity and change in the role of the state in social policy
