NDT of Transport Structures 5 (U00419)

In this course, the students are introduced to a number of aspects of the deterioration of Transport Structures: bridges, highway pavements and railway trackbed. Non-destructive testing techniques have come to the fore as a result of the need to undertake a more comprehensive investigation, and yet minimise interference with the operation of the facility

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course the students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of:
- physics of ultrasonics/sonics, radar and infra-red thermography;
- digital signal processing;
- the application of techniques to various structures;
- the analysis and interpretation of data.

Assessment Information

The assessment will be made on the basis of: Intermittent assessment 20%; Degree examination 80%
