Biophysical Chemistry for MSc Drug Discovery & Translational Biology (P02553)

A lecture course covering instruction in both the theory and application of specific techniques in biophysical chemistry with reference to those related to drug discovery. The course comprises lectures in the Structures of Biological Macromolecules and Macromolecules in Motion.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Entry to the course will be by arrangement with the School of Chemistry and it it is expected that all entrants will have attended at least 3 years of University level chemistry.

? Costs : Students attending the MSc programme S0512 are required to pay a bench fee of £1000.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course students will be able to:
- describe biological structures from the atomic to the cellular scale
- understand the uses of electromagnetic radiation for the analysis of structure, dynamics, interactions and chemical reactions of biological molecules
Learning outcomes specific to attainment of a pass at Level 11 include:
- to integrate all, or most, of the main areas of the course
- develop original and creative responses to problems and issues within the course
- application of critical analysis, evaluation and synthesis to issues at the forefront of the subject area

Assessment Information

One essay of 4000 words on a topic to be agreed between the lecturing staff and the Course Organiser.
