Principles of Microelectronic Devices (P02535)

? Credit Points : 10  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : EEL-P-PGANA

While it is possible for high-level digital system designers to ignore the physics behind the operation of semiconductors, an analogue designer has to be aware of them. The analogue operation of the devices is intimately bound up in the physics of the semiconductor material, and so it is necessary for the designer to appreciate the physics. This module is not a replacement for an Honours degree in Physics, but it will give you enough background to understand how the physics of device operation will affect your circuits. Topics to be covered include:
• Diode capacitance and switching
• Schottky barriers
• Device integration
• Heterojunctions
• LEDs and laser diodes
• Liquid Crystal Displays

? Keywords : microelectronics semiconductor analogue
