Research Skills in the GeoSciences (P02371)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 11  ? Acronym : GEO-P-RSIG

- introduce and discuss topical issues in rseearch practice in the GeoSciences;
- explore and discuss questions of research design and approaches to research;
- provide an opportunity for student presentation and debate on these issues;
- participation in current research debates in the GeoSciences;
- support for progress monitoring activities.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : Attendance required at the GO Postgraduate Conference in March.

? Normal year taken : Postgraduate

? Delivery Period : Semester 2 (Blocks 3-4)

? Additional Class Information : Several class sessions of 2-3 hours spread over 10 weeks in Semester 2, normally Wednesday, Thursday , Friday.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

- appreciate the skills required for postgraduate study and understand where appropriate training is available;
- understand, prepare and present, in written and verbal form, your rsesarch rationale and design.

Assessment Information

100% continuous assessment

- attendance at appropriate seminars in Semester 2 (eg. from the global Change, Subsurface, CECS, HGRG, EEO, Hutton Club series)
- Successful completion of Confirmation Presentation and Report
