Indirect Restorations (P02097)

This module aims to help students:
To understand the role of full and partial coverage indirect restorations in patient care.

To use the clincial skills that they develop in the teaching sessions in their own clinical practice and then to compile a portfolio of evidence using the cases they have treated.

Guidance and support will be given.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : First degree or equivalent professional qualification. Recent appropriate professional experience in primary dental care. At least 3 years post-graduation experience. Registration with the General Dental Council in the United Kingdom.

? Co-requisites : Current clinical practice in dental primary care.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : Specific support will be arranged for students with specific disabilities as already arranged for the other Master Degrees at the Edinburgh Postgraduate Dental Institute.

? Costs : As per fee strategy £1800 per module.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to:
Know and apply the principles underpinning restoration selection and tooth preparation.
Develop appropriate clinical skills to support the delivery of these restorations.
Evaluate their clinical procedures effectively.
Use appropriate methods of temporary coverage.
Communicate effectively with Dental Technician Colleagues.
Select appropriate luting materials for crowns.

Assessment Information

To provide records of:
Six patients where a crown(s) was provided and a brief critical reflection on the care provided for each patient. (200 words for each) (50%)
Project:
A 500 word discussion about the choice of impression materials for the above cases. This should include a review of the materials available and their properties and an evidence based justification for the materials selected. (50%)
