Catchment Hydrochemistry (P01947)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : GEO-P-ENVGCH Monitoring and predictino of ater quality within catchments requires an integrated understanding of environmental chemistry and hydrological processes. This course explores the interaction between hydrology and environmental chemistry and controls on hydrochemistry at the catchment scale, especially the effect of land use on water chemistry. The course then moves on to examine methods of quantifying water and solute fluxes in catchments and applying these to the assessment of water quality and diffuse pollution. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. Subject AreasHome subject areaPostgraduate Research Courses (School of GeoSciences), (School of GeoSciences, Schedule N) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : Postgraduate ? Delivery Period : Semester 1 (Blocks 1-2) ? Contact Teaching Time : 2 hour(s) per week for 10 weeks First Class Information
All of the following classes
Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- Understanding of the interaction between hydrological and environmental chemistry processes within catchments.
- Appreciation of the fctors that cause temporal and spatial variability in hydrochemistry within and between catchments. - Ability to explain how land use can affect catchment water quality. - Ability to quantify water and solute fluxes at the catchment scale. - Ability to devise water quality and diffuse pollution monitoring strategies.
