Animal healthcare systems in the post-privatisation era (P01619)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : VET-P-P01619 This course will review changes in provision of animal healthcare services in relation to privatisation and consider the future options for sustainability. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Completion of the Certificate in International Animal Health. ? Co-requisites : Elective (year 2) ? Special Arrangements for Entry : This courses will be taught entirely by distance learning, using the virtual learning environment Web CT as the delivery platform. Course materials are protected by secure username and password access, that will be made available to registered users. ? Costs : Students will be required to have regular access to a networked computer, and will be reponsible for providing their own computing equipment and consumables. On completion of this course the candidate should understand:
- the historic perspective of animal health systems in developing countries, including impact of structural adjustment and privatisation - respective roles of public and private sector animal health actors - top-down and bottom-up approaches - devolved animal health services and community-based initiatives. Formal summative written assessment will constitute 60% of the student's grade. Online discussion in both a synchronous and asynchronous environment will contribute further to the final mark. Students will also be required to keep an online reflective personal portfolio. In combination with the submission of electronic course assignments, these elements will provide the remaining 40% of the final mark.
