Adaptive Learning Environments 1 (Level 11) (P01532)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : INF-P-ALE1 Computer based tools and learning environments are increasingly used in teaching and learning. This course explores how such educational systems can be made more adaptive and interactive, in order to improve the quality and effectiveness of the teaching that they provide. The theoretical basis of adaptive learning environments will be examined. A number of techniques and examples of existing systems will be considered, This course aims to better equip students with the skills to design and evaluate intelligent and adaptive educational systems. The course presentation will comprise a mixture of lectures and group-based task-led seminars. Entry RequirementsSubject AreasHome subject areaArtificial Intelligence and Education, (School of Informatics, Schedule O) Delivery Information? Normal year taken : Postgraduate ? Delivery Period : Not being delivered ? Contact Teaching Time : 2 hour(s) per week for 10 weeks Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
It is anticipated that students who successfully complete the course will be able to:
* demonstrate knowledge of theoretical approaches and methods used in previous systems through their application to new teaching tasks; * demonstrate an understanding of the design issues in developing educational tools and environments through completing a number of design tasks; * identify appropriate techniques for use in the design and implementation of adaptive learning environments, and assess their relative strengths and weaknesses in relation to specific tasks; * describe methods that can be used to evaluate educational systems and apply these to existing systems; * critically evaluate the state of the art in selected topics through a literature review.
