Forest Ecosystems (P01523)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : GEO-P-FEMFECO Forest Ecosystems is the study of the interactions between plants, animals and their environment. This course will present the essential elements of the ecology of individual tree species, of biotic communities and of forest ecosystems. The emphasis of the course will be on the relationships between functional and structural properties of forest ecosystem and on the dynamic nature of forest communities. Entry Requirements? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
- The identification and ecology of the most common tree species of the British Isles;
- Understanding the postglacial dynamics and ecological genetics of tree species in the British Isles, the nature of disturbances and stress factors in forests, the principles of forest ecosystem management, the interactions between soils, forests and atmosphere, the role of the major ecological processes (competition, herbivory, symbiosis, etc.) in shaping ecosystem structure and functions and tropical forest ecology.
