Acronym : MED-P-P01340 1.To provide an introduction to the attitude, knowledge and skills required for the practice of conscious sedation in dentistry. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : -Successful completion of a Registerable Dental Qualification -The completion of two years postgraduate practice of dentistry -Successful completion of Conscious Sedation 1 (or accredited prior learning) -Submission of a curriculum vitae indicating that CPD is being maintained -Successful outcome at a selection interview (optional) ? Co-requisites : General Dental Council registration Employment as a general Dental Practitioner Medical Indemnity cover ? 1. The acquisition and understanding of core knowledge relevant to the practice of conscious sedation in dentistry.
2. To be clinically competent in the: - Assessment ant treatment planning of patients who require conscious sedation.Administration of conscious sedation for dentistry using: -a single titrated dose of intravenous midazolam -inhaled nitrous oxide using a dedicated inhalation sedation machine.- oral benzodiazepine sedation The use of premedication in the practice of conscious sedation for dentistry Clinical and electromechanical monitoring of the sedated dental patient In the provision of dental care of the sedated patient Appropriate discharge of patients who have received conscious sedation. 3. To promote an awareness and understanding of the importance of: -Conscious sedation in the management of pin and anxiety in dentistry. Communication skills in the management of patients requiring conscious sedation for dentistry. 4. To appreciate the scope and limitations of the basic sedation techniques included in this module. 5. To promote a critical and caring approach to the management of the anxious dental patient. Assessment Information
