Psychological Anxiety Management 3 (P01427)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MED-P-P01340 This module is designed to provide the participants with a more advanced level of assessment and interventions in Cognitive Behavioural Interventions for Dental Anxiety/phobia. The participants will increase their knowledge and understanding of therapeutic relationship issues that influence the psychological treatment. The participants will gain knowledge of co-morbid psychological disorders and be able to screen for these disorders. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Certificate in Psychological Management of Dental Anxiety ? Co-requisites : General Dental Council registration Employment as a general Dental Practitioner Medical Indemnity cover ? Prohibited combinations : The student may not study any of the other Psychological Anxiety Management modules at the same time as Psychological Anxiety Management module 3. -Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioural techniques to reduce dental anxiety/phobia in the more severe dentally anxious/phobic patients.
-To increase the participants' understanding of factors impinging on the successful outcome of Cognitive Behavioural interventions in dental anxiety management and understand factors contributing to Cognitive Behavioural treatment failure. -To increase the participants' awareness of their own stress management -Knowledge of Cognitive models of anxiety: Panic Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder co-morbid psychological disorders -Identification of therapeutic issues in the dentist-patient relationship that may impinge on progress. -Elaboration of Cognitive Behavioural skills to a higher level than Psychological Anxiety Management 2. -Undertake critical analyses of own clinical work in the form of presentations, case studies, supervision and video recording. Understanding of the interpersonal processes that are necessary for the establishment of a collaborative working alliance between dentist and patient. Assessment Information
· Videotaped session of 4 patients to be evaluated with supervisor using the standardised clinical skills evaluation sheet. Satisfactory evaluation of supervision completed by supervisor.
