Psychological Anxiety Management 2 (P01426)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 11 ? Acronym : MED-P-P01340 This module is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and critical understanding of the principal theoretical framework that underpins Cognitive Behavioural techniques, and is informed by the most up to date research findings and theoretical developments. This will allow participants to explore the relevance of a cognitive behavioural approach to dental anxiety and develop a critical understanding of current issues in the psychological management of dental anxiety/phobia. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : Psychological Anxiety Management (20 credits) Conscious Sedation 1 (20 credits) ? Co-requisites : General Dental Council registration Employment as a general Dental Practitioner ? Prohibited combinations : The student may not study any of the other Psychological Anxiety Management modules at the same time as Psychological Anxiety Management module 2. -Demonstrate a critical knowledge and thorough understanding of the general Cognitive Behavioural Therapy framework and its' core principles including Cognitive Behavioural interventions for dental anxiety in children, adolescents and adults.
-Appreciate and critically evaluate the contribution made by research to the development of clinical practice. -Apply Cognitive Behaviour therapy assessment principles in a structured manner and summarise assessment data into a cognitive-behavioural formulation of the individual case. -Demonstrate competency in the ability to select those patients who are most likely to benefit from a Cognitive Behavioural Intervention. -Apply clinical interventions in the management of the dentally anxious patient within a collaborative dentist - patient relationship. This includes adherence to treatment protocols that specify how and when to use particular procedures for particular problems and evaluate the treatment outcome. -The participant will undertake critical analyses of own clinical work in the form of presentations, case studies, supervision and video recording. -The participant will be able to demonstrate creativity and originality in the application of the taught clinical skills to reduce dental anxiety/phobia. Assessment Information
-Videotaped session of 4 patients) to be evaluated with supervisor using the standardised clinical skills evaluation sheet. Satisfactory evaluation of supervision completed by supervisor.
