Acronym : GEO-P-ESIEL The principal aim of this course is to give students an understanding of contemporary developments in international law with regard to the protection of the environment and the sustainable utilisation of natural resources. Students with no prior knowledge of public international law will not find the course too difficult. Entry Requirements? Particular attention will be paid throughout the course to the processes of international law-making and institutional management. The contents and implementation of a range of important international environmental regimes will be analysed. Students will gain an understanding of the factors affecting the negotiation, definition and successful operation of international regimes designed to protect the environment and natural resources.
Assessment Information
MSc students are assessed by (a) an essay of not more than 3000 words, on a topic chosen by the course organiser, due on 1st March 2003, and (b) a second essay, of not more than 6000 words, chosen from an assigned list, due on 12th April 2004. The first essay counts for 40% of the final marks and the second essay for 60%. There are no examinations, assessment is by coursework only.
