Programming and Software Development (P00723)

The area of software development is of key importance for the effective use of HPC facilities. This course module looks at the tools and techniques which are important for enhancing the efficiency of the software engineering process from initial design to testing. The focus of the module is on the application of practical techniques allowing students effectively to develop, test and maintain high quality, portable code. The course will provide students with valuable software skills which are vital in the fields of computational science and engineering.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of this module students should be able to:
Have a broad understanding of benefits available from programming tools.
Recognise and implement the key stages in code design and construction.
Demonstrate understanding of the use of testing to improve software quality.
Propose approaches to manage the risks in a project.
Develop a professional approach to software development.
