Spanish for Non-Specialists, Level 1B (HS0004)

Second semester. Introduction to written and spoken Spanish for students with little or no knowledge of the language. The number admitted to this course is 25.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not accepting further student enrolments.

? Pre-requisites : No previous knowledge of Spanish is required.

? Prohibited combinations : No students on programmes owned by DELC will be admitted.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : Priority to enrolment will be given as follows;
1. Students from College of Science and Engineering, College of Medecine and Veterinary Medecine, and visiting students.
2. Students from College of Humanities and Social Sciences, but from outwith School of LLC (Literatures, Languages & Cultures).
3. Students from School of LLC, but outwith DELC.
No students on programmes owned by DELC will be admitted to these courses.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Basic knowledge of Spanish in a wide variety of situations with the aim to develop learner's confidence in language learning, understanding and responding to others in appropriate situations.

All units are topic-based and introduce a fundamental aspect of structure. Each unit is subdivided into several, stand-alone sections allowing the main topic to be developed and diversified, focusing on many aspects of everyday life and allowing the presentation of subsidiary grammatical items and lexical areas.

Assessment Information

Language exercises, two assessments in weeks 1-11 worth 40% of continuous assessment mark and may be accompanied by computer-based language work and the Degree exam at the end of semester worth 60%.
