French for Non-Specialists, Level 1A (FR0002)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 7 ? Acronym : LLC-1-FR0002 This course in spoken and written French is designed for students who have some knowledge of French (approximately Standard Grade/GCSE level) and who wish to extend it. Note: Numbers on this course are restricted therefore Directors of Studies should contact the Course Organiser, Mrs Sylvie Slater (Sylvie.Slater@ed.ac.uk)to confirm availability before registering students for this course. All students take all elements of assessment including the degree examination (2 hours). Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A Pass in French at Standard Grade or GCSE or equivalent. Students with a lower level of attainment may be admissible, but should consult the Course Organiser. Students with higher levels of attainment will normally be admitted to level 2, but should take French 1B (FR0076) if they have A level A or B or Higher A. ? Prohibited combinations : FR0003 (which is the same course taken in Semester 2) ?

Improved competence in the four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing French. This greater competence is intended to lead to greater confidence and to enhance the ability to learn independently.
