British Wars, 1637-60 (U03397)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : HCL-3-BritWars

The primary aim of the course is to give students a deeper understanding of the British wars, with particular emphasis on popular attitudes. A broad introduction to the politics of the period will support more focused work on key social aspects of the conflicts. An explicitly British approach underpins the course, but students will also be expected to consider the interaction between local concerns and national issues. Students of the early modern period will be encouraged to engage fully in the lively scholarly debates that distinguish this period. Through detailed study of the wars, students will also gain a strong understanding of how locality, politics, social status and religious affiliation influenced social interaction in early modern communities.
