Political Criticism and Dissidence in the Graeco-Roman World (U03335)? Credit Points : 20 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : HCL-3-POLCRIT This course explores the ways in which political issues are explored and manipulated by Greek and Roman writers from Aristophanes and Plato to Tacitus and Pliny. There is a particular focus on how politically subordinate classes could (or could not) express criticism of their rulers, their state, and its political ideology. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : A pass in any first or second level course in Ancient History of Classical Literature, or equivalent. ? Continuous Assessment - 30%(one essay worth 20% and seminar/class preparation worth 10%). One (2-hour) Degree Examination - 70%.
