Clinical Neuroscience (U03300)

This course highlights translational research taking place in Clinical Neuroscience: 'Mechanisms to Man'. A selection of diseases and techniques that are of key importance to current clinical neuroscientists will be covered. Following a brief introduction to the vascular and functional anatomy of the human brain, four topics will be discussed: Imaging, Stroke, Parkinson's Disease and Creutzfeld Jacob Disease. For each topic there will be a selection of lectures and interactive sessions to discuss the role of animal models of disease in elucidating the mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology which can then be translated to the clinic to provide novel drug treatment strategies and improved patient care.

Entry Requirements

? This course is not available to visting students.

? Pre-requisites : Permission of the Curriculum Approval Officer. Normally Brain and Behaviour 3 and Physiology 3; at least two Neuroscience Level 10 courses

? Prohibited combinations : Cannot be taken in combination with U01045 (CNS Diseases)

? Special Arrangements for Entry : Directors of Studies should contact the Programme Secretary or Programme Organiser for Honours Neuroscience before registering a student for this course. Priority is given to Honours Neuroscience students.
