English Literature Long Essay (40 credits) (U03109)

In consultation with the department, students will identify a topic in English Literature for an independent Long Essay project. Students will have access to staff for individual consultation during the year. The Long Essay will be submitted during Semester 2 of the fourth year.

? Pre-requisites : Students can only be enrolled on this course with the approval of Dr S Carpenter, Head of English Literature

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing the course will learn how to generate and approach a research project independently. They will develop their capacity for sustained independent work including the identification of a suitable topic, location and use of appropriate research materials, and writing up of a sustained literary project.

Assessment Information

A Long Essay of c 6,000 words on a topic in English Literature, presented in scholarly form with appropriate notes and bibliography
