Deformation Processes and Active Tectonics (U03059)

This course shares some learning materials with Active Tectonics. (please see course booklet for more information).

Part I of the course covers these topics:

1. Rheology
2. Rock failure
3. Dynamic and subcritical crack growth
4. Nucleation of failure of rocks and in the earth
5. Mantle rheology and the driving mechanism of plate tectonics.


Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : Year 3 of BSc (Hons) Geophysics; OR Year 3 of BSc (Hons)Geology plus any Year 2 mathematics course. Please see the degree programme table for further information.

? Prohibited combinations : Active Tectonics
