Integrated Pathology/Clinical Studies VI Final Year Rotations (U02856)

The course comprises clinical rotations in the large and small animal practices, large and small animal internal medicine and surgery, preventative medicine and various specialisms. Pathology, microbiology and parasitology are also covered, providing continuing experience in autopsy technique, laboratory investigation of disease and clinico-pathological correlation.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

The overall objectives of the Practical Training Year are:
1. To build upon the previous years of didactic and clinical instruction by integrating the material into a purely clinical setting.
2. To develop practical clinical skills to a degree greater than permitted with a final year that includes lectures.
3. To develop skills in history taking, in clinical examination, and in formulating a list of problems and differential diagnoses.
4. To develop enhanced problem solving ability.
5. To develop a sense of responsibility to the patients under care and to their owners.
6. To develop further skills in communication with instructors, with peers and with the animal owning public.
7. To develop professional attitudes in the widest sense, including personal tidiness and maintenance of a clean and safe clinical environment.
8. To develop further the spirit of intellectual curiosity and academic enquiry.

Assessment Information

50% of the total marks available to a final year student are from Continuous Assessments, which include the various rotations, together with the Clinical Project, Clinical Case Presentation and the Elective. The other 50% comes from the End of Year Examination, which is held in June. The overall combined pass mark for Continuous Assessment and End of Year Examination is 50%.
