This course introduces absolute beginners to the morphology and syntax of Classical Latin.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : This course is divided into two halves of five weeks each, with a guided reading week between them to allow for consolidation and for preparation for the second half of the course.

Students who complete the course successfully will be able by the end of the course to demonstrate in written examination and course work (including weekly quizzes and tutorial exercises):
- a good understanding of the essentials of Latin grammar and syntax;
- basic skills in translating and understanding Latin literary texts.

Class work (40%);
one (2-hour) degree exam paper - 60%.
