This course is based on works translated into English. The course concentrates on giving an introduction to the Qur'an and Hadith, covering their nature, history, and the study of particular topics as expounded in these sources. The main focus is on gaining familiarity with the sources themselves.

? Pre-requisites : A pass in Islamic History 1, or evidence of qualifications considered satisfactory by the lecturer in charge of the course.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students should be able to:
understand the background and rise of Islam in its historical setting
possess familiarity with selected Qur'an and Hadith texts
understand the content and significance of important rituals and beliefs of
Islam

Assessment Information

Examination: one 2 hour exam (60%)
Course Work: one 2,000 word essay (40%)
