? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : GEO-4-HAZMAN

This course builds on skills and knowledge gained in Principles in GIS and provides students the opportunity to develop their practical and research skills in an area of cutting edge research. The course involves the development of a knowledge based spatial decision support system for flooding using recent developments in knowledge representation and use. Introductory lectures will be given to support a major project that will involve the collection of spatial data, its management, and its analysis for providing decision makers with the necessary information to make timely and effective decisions. Students will extend their practical skills in GIS and other GI tools to develop solutions to one of the increasingly prevalent natural disasters that occur in the UK, namely flooding. The course also involves two weekend field trips to a research site for collection of data and will require students to pay for accommodation and food.
