Integrated Pathology/Clinical Studies V (U02502)

This course follows on from the Introduction to Animal Husbandry in the first two years. Husbandry incorporates all facets of scientific and economic production, but it also overlays the important senses of care and preservation. When husbandry is found wanting disease can occur. The links between nutrition management and health are emphasised throughout this module. This course also covers basic aspects of diseases of fish and birds.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

Students will be assessed according to their ability to:
1. Explain how the common cattle and sheep husbandry and management systems can result in disease, poor fertility, welfare problems, and reduced production.
2. Describe the principal aspects of the important diseases of cattle and sheep.
3. Outline strategies for treatment, prevention and optimum production in herds and flocks.
4. A basic understanding of the diseases of birds and fish.

Assessment Information

There will be a two hour end of module examination at the end of the course. The examination will comprise two sections (A and B) with each section contributing 50% of the marks. Section A will comprise a choice of two out of three 30 minute essay questions, and Section B will comprise of 40 compulsory multiple choice questions.
