Geographies of Education (U02485)

The option stems from current research interests in higher education and develops keys ideas on geography, education and social change. It will ground a theoretical analysis of concepts in the geography of education in a range of different regional context.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

On completion of the option students should have achieved the stated learning outcomes which will be assessed by class performance and degree work. These include:
- understanding of key ideas about geography, education and social change
- analysis and explain the main trends in educational policy and their relationship to urban and regional change
- develop an appreciation of the complex geographical links between educational achievement and social inequalities

Assessment Information

Class:
One critical literature review (2,000 words); 50%
One portfolio summarising and critiquing tutorial readings 50%

Degree:
One essay (2000 words): 40%
One 2 hour examination (2 questions): 60%
