The Geography of Health and Health Care (U02234)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 10  ? Acronym : GEO-3-HHC

The module provides a theoretical background to the geographical study of health and health care. Health Geography can be broadly divided into two interrelated areas, firstly, the geography of health and disease and secondly, the geography of health and health care. The geography of health and disease has been largely restricted to indicators that relate to ill-health and data concerned with either morbidity or mortality. The geography of health care on the other hand is concerned with the planning, management and delivery of health care systems. This course explores both aspects of health geography and will demonstrate to students how geographical techniques can be applied in related disciplines, such as epidemiology and public health.
