Honours Project (Informatics) (U01973)? Credit Points : 40 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : INF-4-PROJ This is a major project conducted individually by the student under the supervision of a member of teaching staff. (Operationally, supervision may be delegated, but a nominated member of teaching staff remains responsible for monitoring progress of the project.) The project specification is usually provided by a member of staff, but students are also free to specify their own project. All project specifications must be approved by the Project Coordinator. The work undertaken during the project is written up in a project report, which must be entirely the student's own work. For a single honours Informatics degree, the project will normally involve the construction of an artifact, whether software, hardware, a robotic device, some other artifact incorporating computation, or some combination of these. This requirement does not necessarily apply to combined honours degrees. Entry Requirements? This course is not available to visting students. ? Pre-requisites : Successful completion of Year 3 of an Informatics Single or Combined Honours Degree, or equivalent by permission of the School. There is also a possibility of further project dependent pre-requisites. ? Prohibited combinations : This course is not avilable to VUG students. Subject AreasHome subject areaDelivery Information? The project will develop skills and test abilities in most if not all of the following activities:
- Scholarship: in seeking out, absorbing, structuring and summarising a body of knowledge. - Organisation: in the management of time and resources. - Presentation, both written and oral. - Analytical method: in the development of the project specification and in the solution of practical and conceptual problems. - Design: in the construction of software and hardware. - Empirical method: in the design of experiments and the interpretation of experimental data. The students' achievements under these headings will be demonstrated in oral presentations, working software or hardware and, of course, the project report. Assessment Information
