Mathematical Methods 3 (Phys Sci) (U01684)

Ordinary differential equations: separable, second order linear with constant coefficients. Solution in series. Functions of several variables: partial derivatives, directional derivatives, with applications to tangent planes and normals. Chain rule. Jacobians. Taylor series with applications. Double and repeated integrals, change of variable.

Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes

1. Ability to solve simple linear ordinary differential equations of first and second order
2. Ability to solve simple non-linear ordinary differential equations arising in physical problems
3. Ability to apply certain methods for multivariable calculus in physical problems

Assessment Information

Coursework: 15%; Degree Examination: 85%; at least 40 must be achieved in each component.
