Portuguese Language for Beginners (U01680)

? Credit Points : 20  ? SCQF Level : 8  ? Acronym : LLC-2-U01680

This course runs for 3 hours per week throughout the year. Classes are a mixture of formal grammar lectures and seminars (Mondays at 11-12) plus two hours of written and spoken language clases with native speakers. Since it is designed to cater for students wishing to continue with Portuguese beyond 2nd year in a Modern Languages Degree, it is not simply a 'holiday' language course. Points of grammar will be covered on a weekly basis in a grammar class and these will be reinforced in small group spoken and written language classes with the intention of consolidating the student's proficiency in the 4 core skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Entry Requirements

? Pre-requisites : No previous knowledge of Portuguese is required: a pass in a modern foreign language or a classical language at SCE Higher Grade or equivalent is normally required. This course is not normally available to first year students.

? Special Arrangements for Entry : For visiting students, the course is available only with the explicit permission of the Course Organiser for Portuguese.

? Costs : No. Although students are recommended to purchase a Portuguese Grammar text, such as Hutchinson and Lloyd, Portuguese: An Essential Grammar.
