Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics 4 (U01671)? Credit Points : 10 ? SCQF Level : 10 ? Acronym : EEL-4-CHTHD In this course the principles of phase equilibrium and chemical reaction equilibrium are studied, and their application to chemical engineering problems is described. In particular multicomponent chemical systems are dealt with for both liquid-liquid and vapour-liquid systems. Solubility of gases and non-ideal mixing in the liquid phase are emphasised. There is discussion of high pressure phase equilibrium. Entry Requirements? Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
Students should: have a knowledge of the fundamentals of phase equilibrium as it relates to chemical engineering; be able to use the mathematical framework that thermodynamics provides for phase equilibrium calculations; be able to carry out simple phase equilibrium calculations, as part of a preliminary design exercise or to check computer calculations; and be able to carry out simple chemical reaction equilibrium calculations in the same contexts.
Assessment Information
Two hour written examination at the end of the academic year.
