Summary of Intended Learning Outcomes
The following are the learning objectives for the Honours version, MAT-3-MaF; for this (Ordinary) version there is more emphasis on the technical, rather than conceptual elements, which will be reflected by a different examination.
1. An understanding of the dynamical and kinematical concepts of flow modelling (flux, conservation, balance, thermal energy, gravitational field, electrostatic potential, velocity field, momentum density, etc.). 2. An ability to introduce and use potentials in appropriate vector field theories. 3. An understanding of the links between separated solutions and two-point eigenvalue problems; an ability to solve problems using separated solutions. 4. A familiarity with the use of dipole solutions. 5. Experience of some features of standing waves and of radiation. 6. An appreciation of fluid pressure in hydrostatics and in ideal flows. A familiarity with some basic viscous flows. Assessment Information
Coursework: 15%; Degree Examination: 85%.
