Acronym : PHY-4-PhSkillM4 This is a synoptic paper testing problem solving abilities, with a portion of the paper devoted to more advanced topics. Students are expected to analyse and solve problems, which may be unseen, utilising existing Physics knowledge. Entry Requirements? Pre-requisites : At least 70 credit points accrued in courses of SCQF Level 9 or 10 drawn from Schedule Q. ? Students should be able to :
1) Identify and apply the physical concepts / laws needed to analyse and solve the problem; 2) Make appropriate assumptions, qualifications or order of magnitude estimates in order to solve open-ended problems; 3) Be able to graph or sketch a visual representation of a property or observable quantity appropriate to the problem at hand; 4) Be able to comment on or assess the implications of the solution they have proposed to a particular problem; 5) Be able to solve physics problems by mathematical or any other valid reasoning.
